Restaurant Review

Shenzhen Seafood Restaurant (Portland OR)

(503) 261-1689    707 NE 82nd Avenue,
Portland, OR 97220

This restaurant has fine Chinese home-cooked dishes and a tri-lingual menu. Its chef, Jing Dong-Sheng, has owned this eatery for three years and prepares food from his native town, Shen Zhen. Try his Salted Fish or his Chicken and Eggplant in Claypot. Both are homey with or without tofu added. Ginger and Green Onion with Sea Cucumber is as good a dish as my husband would ever want; we loved it! Their Rice Noodle with Meat and Special Eggplant are items on their Northern menu section. Lots of dishes are posted on the wall over or near the live seafood tanks, but unfortunately they are not in English. Try the Clam Fried with Pepper, Ginger and Onion and the Green Onion with Lamb Meat.

Nothing here disappoints. The Sesame Green Onion Cake is simple and simply delicious. The Chilled Garlic Pork White Meat is a swinging Sichuan dish. Mongolian Beef would win over a Khan. And their Fujian Fried Rice won me over.

The staff is friendly, has some English language skills, and they make you feel at home. Here, they serve family stye dinners for under ten bucks. They come with Spring Roll, Soup, Fried Rice, and one dish per person--more American in choices than Chinese. Nevertheless, it is a bargain to taste home cooking and feel at home.
