This restaurant is where, about two years ago, the chef arrived from St Paul's Little Szechuan and opened this eatery. Went to the 'Little' place about two weeks after it opened and was disappointed then. Now I safely can say Grand Szechuan has improved and its chef is ably serving the masses in this twin-city suburb.
His Ma La Beef Tendons have plenty of hot and numbing spices. The Pork Belly in Garlic Sauce is quite satisfactory in spite of too much oil; and his sliced pork belly is first-rate. The Shredded Potatoes with Green Peppers here are up to the mark and the Ma Po Tofu, pictured on this page, is served with a scattering of black beans and scallions is simply splendid, and is his Eggplant Szechuan Style.
On a future visit do want to see what he is doing with whole Walleye, more or less the state fish of Minnesota. Should you know and get there before I do, give me a heads up.
