Never saw Chinese Food cooked before your eyes? Grab a bar-like stool and sit at the counter at this twenty-five year old Hunanese Restaurant. Linger over the lovely spiral-edged menu. Skip the ordinary fare, many dishes a mite too oily for our taste; there are good dishes to enjoy here.
While watching, zero in on the Smoked Duck Hunanese and you will not be disappointed. Brandy Ho does its own smoking, and over almond wood. With the current barbecue craze, try any of their meats--ham, chicken, duck, and bacon, all smoked a minimum of eight hours, all then prepared Chinese style. One dish we had, Duck stir-fried with Garlic and Hot and Sweet Green Peppers and Bamboo Shoots ignited our interest but not our taste buds. Why, we are told it is typically Hunanese, but we disagree. Their Own Smoked Ham is made pretty much the same way as is the Smoked Chicken. We found both the best Chinese smoked meat dishes ever, and the best of seven dishes tried. The smoked chicken comes with items already mentioned, and some carrots. Watch them do the stir-frying, not the smoking of course, then enjoy these very good dishes. The chefs unintended show is great, it elevates your appetite and your enthusiasm for their food as you see them toss quickly, dodge flames, flip woks, and produce a dish in lickety-split time.
