Many have asked why so many articles about Chinese Minority Populations. One reason, there is little information about them in English. Another, many are larger than the populations of some countries. More important is what minorities were written about in Flavor and Fortune, and when?

According to the 2010 Chinese census, in decreasing order of each ethnic population, eighteen of these recognized groups had more than one million people each. In decreasing order, they are the Zhuang, Hui, Manchu, Uygur, Miao, Yi, Tujia, Tibetan, Mongol, Dong, Bouyei, Yao, Bai, Korean, Hani, Li, Kazak, and Dai.

In alphabetical order, their populations below are as given in the 2010 Chinese census. The issues they are written about are in the volumes that follow these numbers.

BAI had 1, 934 million; and are in Volumes 19(2), 19(3), 19(4), and 20(3).

BOUYEI were 29th and 2,890 million; and are in Volumes 16(4) and 19(1).

DAI were 1,261 million; and are in Volumes 9(3), 19(2), and 19(3).

DONG were 2,880 million; and are in Volumes 14(3) and 19(3).

HANI were 1.661 million; and are in Volume 19(2) and 21(4).

HUI were 10,586 million; and are in Volumes 11(2), 11(4), and 18(3).

KAZAK were 1.463 million; and are in Volumes 9(4) and 19(2).

KOREANS were 1.831 million; and are in Volumes 10(1), 11(3), 14(1), 18(3), and 18(4).

LI were 1.643 million; and are in Volumes 19(2) and 20(4).

MANCHU were 10.388 million; and are in Volumes 9(2), 18(1), and 18(3).

MIAO were 9.426 million; and are in Volumes 9(2), 18(1), and 18(3).

MONGOL were 5.982 million; and are in Volumes 7(1), 8(2), 8(3), 18(4), and 21(4).

TIBETANS were 6,282 million; and are in Volumes 6(3), 16(4), 17(1), and 18(4).

TUJIA were 6282 million; and are in Volume 21(1).

UYGUR were 10,069 million; and are in Volumes 11(1), 18(2), 18(3), and 21(4).

YAO were 2,796 million; and are in 15(4), 16(3), and 19(1).

YI were 2.796 million; and are in Volumes 10(2) and 18(4).

ZHUANG were 16,926 million; and are in Volume 12(3).

JING were 28,199, currently are spelled Gin and Chinese-Vietnamese, also known as Jingpo; and are in Volume 21(2).

LISU were 702,839 people; and are in Volume 22(1).

SHE were 708,651 people and 19th largest; and are in Volume 22(2).

KYRGYZ were 186,708 people; and are in Volumes 10(3) and 12(3).

UZBEK were 10,569 people and 48th largest; and are in Volumes 11(3) and 17(1).

The Chinese government recognizes fifty-five minority populations and the majority ethnic group known as the Han. They consider and call all people following Islam as Hui people; though most of them would disagree. In some countries, such as in the US, Chinese Miao are called Hmong.
