 Those who make things of this type of pottery have, what the fly-leaf calls, an uncanny eye for detail. This small volume does, too, in its thirteen chapters. They discuss the origin and development of Yixing pottery, the Monk from Jinsha Temple and the Gongchun teapot and other Yixing ware, mostly during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Many pottery masters and famous teapot artists are discussed, their works illustrated.
There is additional information about other industrial artists, the characteristics of their work, how they are used and the teapot shapes they make with this purple Yixing clay. Many Chinese teapots are made and shown in ever so many different shapes. Other artistic things are described; some shown in color photographs and as well as in black and white; most are teapots or items used when making tea. Fine words and better photographs describe them. This book is an appreciation of a fine Chinese art. The book is one of the dozen in the 'Arts of the Chinese' series.
