Discussed are ninety foods and herbs with facts and photos. This information helps one understand and make the best choices for self using the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In addition, there are six chapters about how to use functional foods, treat common health conditions such as getting fit and staying energetic, enhance beauty through inner harmony, regulate and boost immunity, maintain reproductive health, reduce toxins, regulate moods, and sharpen mental acuity.

The appendix provides tips and tools to get one's kitchen ready discussing ingredients and cooking techniques. Included is a glossary, a bibliography, and an index. The book ends with a guide to functional foods and herbs shaped in a heart with symptoms and foods in six areas, the center of which is a small heart including foods for everyone. These are separated into heat and damp, dry and cold, overly strong and weak. Those foods considered for everyone are: figs, almonds, licorice, carrots, gingko nuts, sunflower seeds, lotus, white or black fungus, and olives.
