1 pound fresh soy bean pods, strings and ends removed
1 teaspoon five-spice powder
1 teaspoon coarse salt
2 teaspoons Sichuan peppercorns, crushed and tied in a square of cheese cloth.
Put soy beans, five-spice powder, salt, and the
peppercorns in a two-quart pot, and simmer them for
twelve minutes, then drain, discard the cheesecloth
packet, and chill in the refrigerator for half an hour or
more; then serve in a small bowl.
